Head to the Douro Valley to be enchanted by the scenic routes and landscape, taste spectacular wines, visit historic ‘quintas’ estates and enjoy a memorable boat ride up the river.
Below is a mix of the Best Boutique and Wine Hotels in the Douro we have visited and love, plus those on our radar.
A beautiful boutique hotel in one of the oldest and most famous wine estates in Douro Valley.
Quinta do Vallado is a boutique wine hotel established in 1716. It is one of the oldest and most famous “Quinta” estates in the Douro Valley, in the north of Portugal. There are five rooms in an original 18th-century manor house and a further eight in a new wing designed by architect Francisco Vieira de Campos. Some of the rooms have a balcony with great views of the vineyards.
The living room and restaurant located in the new wing are decorated in an impeccable Scandinavian style. The picturesque garden features a lovely sun terrace with an outdoor pool.
We have been here twice and we are looking forward to our third visit. It’s really a very special place.
A boutique hotel in the Douro with beautiful vineyards, stylish Scandi decor and a dreamy infinity pool.
Opened in 2015, this eight-suite boutique hotel is surrounded by organic vineyards and wildflowers, and impeccably designed with Scandinavian style rooms and decor. Casa do Rio is one of the best boutique hotels in Portugal, and the sister hotel of Quinta do Vallado, one of the oldest and most famous estates in the Douro Valley.
It’s located deep in the Douro wine region, more specifically, in Vila Nova de Foz Coa. Casa do Rio is slightly farther than most of the hotels in the Douro region so we recommend that you stay for at least two nights. It’s truly beautiful here.
A five-star spa hotel nestled in a 19th-century manor house overlooking the vine-covered hills of the Douro Valley.
Six Senses Douro Valley is a five-star spa hotel in the North of Portugal. The estate is set amongst eight-hectares of wonderful woodland. It's centred around a beautifully renovated 19th-century manor house with 41 guest bedrooms, nine suites and seven villas, some with private pools and gardens with sweeping panoramas.
The hotel offers guests therapeutic spa treatments, wine tastings and a mirror-effect outdoor infinity pool. Not to mention a range of fun and quirky workshops such as learning how to make natural beauty products, tile painting, pickles, yoghurt & tea.
There is a good reason why Six Senses selected the Unesco-heritage-listed Douro Valley region in Portugal for their first European venture.
A gorgeous Winery & Farmhouse in the Douro offering private pool villas and luxury suites.
Sitting in 120 beautiful hectares of vineyards, this traditional manor house in the Douro has been converted into Portugal’s first wine hotel.
A boutique wine hotel set in an idyllic green landscape among the fertile agricultural lands of Portugal’s Minho region.
This authentic Douro farm has been given a new lease of life as a 29-bedroom boutique hotel surrounded by incredible scenery.
We love the joyful decor of this seven bedroom guesthouse in Armarmar, in the Douro Valley. The rooms are cosy, and there’s a shared terrace. Some rooms have a private balcony with a mountain view.
This eight-bedroom farm stay hotel is set in a gorgeous wine estate that combines tradition, modernity and luxury with simplicity.
So there you go, those are what we consider to be some of the Best Boutique and Wine Hotels in the Douro right now. We hope you like them as much as we do.
