Built from the ruins of a former quinta inside the Costa Vicentina Natural Park, Amaria is the kind of hotel that stays with you.
Amaria is the creation of Nuno Avillez Oliveira (known to friends as Biskaya), who runs the project with his wife, Phoebe. The name Amaria holds three meanings: Nuno's mother Maria, the nearby village of Maria Vinagre, and the Portuguese verb amar - 'to love'.
Amaria is an intimate, rural boutique hotel comprising two buildings and 11 minimalist suites plus a three-bedroom apartment. It is a nature-first retreat: a 20-metre saltwater pool, wood-fired barrel sauna, yoga deck, restored vineyard and vegetable garden, farm-to-table meals – all set amidst ten hectares of gardens that fringe the coastal trails and beaches.
This is the kind of place you come to enjoy peaceful mornings filled with the sounds of the ocean and birdsong.

Amaria is a boutique hotel set within the Costa Vicentina Natural Park, between Odeceixe and Aljezur, on Portugal's southwest Atlantic coast.
Amaria is a boutique hotel located in the Algarve's Costa Vicentina, the most protected stretch of the Portuguese coast. Development is tightly restricted (only old ruins can be rebuilt), which is precisely why it's such a magical corner of Portugal.
Amaria sits between the villages of Odeceixe to the north and Aljezur to the south, roughly three kilometres from the beach at Odeceixe and ten from Aljezur town. A car is strongly recommended as the beaches and villages are spread out and public transport is limited.
The Fishermen's Trail runs right past the gate, so you can walk north along the cliff tops to Odeceixe Beach - about three kilometres, so allow an hour or so with stops for the views (or drive it in under fifteen minutes).
Odeceixe is a stunning horseshoe-shaped beach where the Seixe River meets the Atlantic. If you fancy a dip you can choose between the crashing waves of the ocean and the calm, shallow lagoon of the river.
For lunch we recommend Casa Dorita, a down-to-earth Portuguese restaurant overlooking the beach. It's all about fresh grilled fish and seafood.
Back at Amaria, enjoy a swim in the 20-metre saltwater pool and then relax in the wood-fired barrel sauna overlooking the Atlantic. Finish on the yoga deck with a stretch (or a nap) before dinner at Amaria - farm-to-table cooking from the vegetable garden and the local market, served under the pergola.

Hiring a car is highly recommended to get to Amaria and explore the region and the beautiful beaches nearby. Otherwise, you can take a taxi from the airport, or Amaria can arrange a transfer.
By Coach
There are daily coach services from Lisbon (3h30) and Lagos (50min) )to Odeceixe and Aljezur. From Odeceixe, a 10-minute taxi ride will get you to Amaria.
